COMMUNITY MENTORS

Interactionz has two staff working as community mentors. They use person driven practice to assist people to:

  • Access employment related options
  • Increase skills
  • Develop friendships, and
  • Actively participate in the community.

Community mentors develop a relationship with people to build up a picture of their goals, gifts and capacities, dreams, likes and dislikes so they can match these with opportunities within the community. Where possible, the best information will come from people themselves but family and friends are also good sources of information.

Many people who have attended our service for a number of years have become dependent on a day activity service at a specific venue. This means that the day service side of assistance can only be faded out at the pace of the person and their family.

Community mentors aim to assist people to be less dependent on daily attendance and increase their connections within the community. The focus is to assist people to develop valued roles within their community. Valued roles may include - friend, club member, student, employee or volunteer.

Right options and right supports are the keys to success.
