CREATIVE SPACES

Creative Spaces is the name given to the related visual and performing arts and crafts activities people do at their community centre. This ranges from painting to handcrafts and is not limited to any one form.

How does it fit in with our vision, strategic goals and strategic plan?

A clear training and education pathway is a key component of community participation. This covers a wide range of areas and is focused on skill development and the acquisition of knowledge that will lead to further training, education, employment, leisure and recreation opportunities.

The creative spaces programme encourages people to seek ways to become involved in their local community.

Why does Interactionz provide the Creative Spaces programme?

People want to fill their day with meaningful activities. By having the opportunity to participate in practical arts and crafts activities they can be challenged to develop new skills and to realize that they can create and express their views in a variety of ways.
Creative spaces are organisations that value the creative process as a means of contributing to individual and community wellbeing.

It is widely recognised that the arts can enhance people’s quality of life.

Artists from creative spaces tend to be included in the Outsider Art movement. Outsider Art is art developed by people who are often on the margins of society and have had no formal training. It is usually considered very expressive, emotionally charged and direct, and is increasingly commanding top dollars in established art circles.

How does Creative Spaces link with the person’s dreams, goals and aspirations as expressed in their connection plan?

Interactionz recognises that there are working gifts and waiting gifts (waiting to be called and developed). A person’s goals and aspirations will not include the waiting gifts. Creative Spaces provides the opportunities to explore both working and waiting gifts.

Often a person’s gifts are invisible so Creative Spaces provides a safe and supportive environment for people to discover and contribute their personal gifts.

These can then be recorded in personal plans and connection plans.

The Creative Spaces tutor can assist in the community building process by accompanying, encouraging and directly assisting a person to discover interests and possibilities by trying things with someone who gives them (or others) a sense of safety and confidence.

Each centre has a creative space specifically for the development of personal skills and knowledge. There is one designated staff person responsible for the programme working with a group of up to eight people.

Supporting this there are other creative activities undertaken by other staff that may have a support role with an individual person or a small group.
