Tell us about yourself?
I am a young, fit and handsome young man. I’ve been brought up in foster homes all my life. I’ve got other skills different to other people. I’ve got a family that loves me. I play basketball for Waikato Special Olympics.
What did you hope to get from participating in the storytelling workshop?
It was for myself and my family, for things that I’ve done, back in the past to them. Sharing what I’m like now.
Why did you choose this particular story to tell?
I thought I needed to get it out of my system. I thought I needed to change to the way I was before, to be myself.
How have you changed as a result of telling and making your story?
Yep, I’ve changed. My behaviour has changed. I’m more respectful to other people, more sensible. When I made the story that was the fresh start, the first day of the fresh start.
How do you think this experience will impact your journey?
Its going to change my life and I’m going to be respecting the people I talk to and think before I open my mouth to speak and not lie, to be respected back. My story says I want my family to understand. I want them to know who the real Wiremu is, not the plastic Wiremu who thinks he knows best. I am a decent young man.
